For a residence route requiring health insurance, the question is whether the coverage meets that route’s requirements and can be evidenced. A document called “insurance” is not automatically sufficient. Look at who is insured, where the cover applies, what it covers and whether it is currently effective.
Identify the basis of your coverage
Depending on your circumstances, coverage may arise through employment, another qualifying public-insurance basis, voluntary NFZ insurance or an appropriate private policy. The Foreigners Act sets residence requirements; the National Health Fund explains voluntary public insurance and its conditions.
Do not assume that having an employment offer means you are already registered and covered. Similarly, paying for a commercial healthcare subscription is not automatically the same as insurance meeting immigration requirements.
A document review checklist
| Check | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Insured person | The evidence must identify the relevant applicant |
| Coverage dates | There may be a gap between one arrangement and the next |
| Territory and scope | A travel-only or limited product may not match the requirement |
| Current effectiveness | Registration and payment evidence may be needed |
| Terms and exclusions | The policy title alone does not explain what the insurer undertakes to cover |
Ask the issuer for clear documents if the information is spread across a policy, certificate and separate terms. Keep the complete version available for review.
Students and transitions
The NFZ student guidance distinguishes insurance arrangements and highlights continuity. International students should check the route applicable to their nationality and circumstances rather than assume that every student is automatically insured by the university.
Graduation, a new job or the end of a family-based arrangement can change the position. Record the end date of old coverage and the start date of the replacement. An application pending at the office does not automatically keep an unrelated insurance arrangement active.
When buying a private policy
Explain that you need evidence for a particular residence application in Poland. Ask for the relevant coverage wording and any required proof of payment before purchase. Compare the scope and limitations, not just a cheap headline premium.
STAYLEGAL’s price list includes an insurance-related offer, but the suitability of a product still depends on the case. Do not purchase a policy merely because another applicant used it successfully.
Keep the evidence current
If the policy renews or your public-insurance basis changes during the proceedings, keep the new documents with your case record and respond to any request accurately. Read the waiting checklist for organising updates while the application is pending.
